Professor Cheng-Hock Toh
Professor Cheng-Hock Toh was elected Academic Vice-President of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in September 2018. He is Professor and Consultant in Haematology at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is Chair of the National Blood Transfusion Committee and was President of the British Society for Haematology (2018-2020) and National Haematology Lead of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (2015-2020). Cheng-Hock has trained in Sheffield, Manchester and Newcastle as well as at Johns Hopkins, USA and Queen’s University, Canada. His translational research programme on understanding blood changes during infection and critical illness has led to patented discoveries, product development and guidelines to improve standards in patient care. At the RCP, he looks after the Communication, Policy and Research directorate and is senior officer for RCP North. He also chairs the Academic Leads group for the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. Overall, his responsibilities to advance and disseminate knowledge include directing the RCP Medicine conferences, the RCP Teach-ins, the RCP journals and the new RCP Player.
Dr Catherine Booth
Dr Catherine Booth is a consultant haematologist specialising in transfusion medicine. She holds a joint post with NHS Blood and Transplant and Barts Health NHS Trust in London. Barts Health is the biggest user of blood products in the country and provides specialist services for trauma, cardiothoracic surgery, haemoglobinopathies and haemato-oncology including stem cell transplant. Her role includes developing practices for safe and effective use of blood, providing clinical advice and red cell immunology expertise, teaching in regional and national programmes and involvement in audit and research in clinical transfusion. Dr Booth has a particular interest in education and public involvement, aiming to demystify transfusion for healthcare professionals and patients alike.
Dr Nandini Sadasivam
Dr Nandini Sadasivam has been a consultant since 2017. She works as a red cell and general haematology consultant at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Her area of interest includes sickle cell, thalassemia, inherited rare anaemias and quality improvement. Nationally, she is involved in writing of the BCSH guidelines on monitoring and management of iron overload in patients with haemoglobinopathies and rare anaemia. She is a steering committee member of the national haemoglobinopathy registry (NHR) and is currently involved in the launch of the new improvised NHR platform. Manchester is also a Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) for both sickle cell and thalassemia. She is taking a lead in the implementation of HCC work for North of England in Thalassemia and Inherited anaemia. Regionally, she is a lead in the implementation of Genomics Medicine Service in Haemoglobinopathies and rare anaemia for North West. Locally, she chairs the operational group for antenatal and newborn screening programme for sickle cell and thalassemia. She is also actively involved in setting up and running of clinical research in red cells at Manchester.
Dr Charlotte Bradbury
Dr Charlotte Bradbury MBBCh (oxon), MA, FRCP, FRCPath, PhD is a consultant haematologist at University Hospitals Bristol where she is VTE and anticoagulation lead. She also leads liaison (advice and referral) haematology, is a member of the UHBristol Research Funding Committee, UK ITP forum and British Society of Haematology general haematology task force. In addition, Charlotte is a senior lecturer at the University of Bristol where she leads haematology teaching and is overall year 2 lead for undergraduate medical student teaching (MB ChB). Dr Bradbury holds several research grants for clinical trials and basic science laboratory projects. Her research interests are in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), complex acquired coagulopathies, thrombosis and this year she has also been actively involved in COVID-19 clinical research. She is as a member of the ITSC for REMAP-CAP and ATTACC international COVID-19 trials, the UK lead for anticoagulation domain and international lead for the antiplatelet domain of REMAP-CAP.
